Sparkasse: Error in the S-pushTAN app paralyzes online banking

The savings banks’ online banking had to contend with massive disruptions on Sunday. The release of transactions with the S-pushTAN app failed. However, the problem is said to have been resolved meanwhile.

The first reports appeared on the Allestörungen portal at around midnight, rising to more than 4,500 by midday on Sunday. Since then, the number of reports has dropped, but is still in the hundreds.

The number of reports on Allestörungen.de has risen sharply and was still in the hundreds on Monday night.

The error message that appeared for those affected was that a transaction could not be released and that those affected should contact their customer advisor; a longer ID number was also given. A note appeared in the transaction itself that the S-pushTAN app should be secured with biometrics – in the author’s specific case. However, this was the case anyway. The savings bank admits on Facebook that there were issues.

The Sparkasse informed about the online banking outage on Facebook.

“The malfunction of the S-pushTAN app from this morning has been fixed. The release of orders is now possible again without restrictions,” the savings banks write there. Cash withdrawals at ATMs and card payments in shops were not impacted. In a similar notice, the Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband e.V. (DSGV) clarified that it was apparently not the result of a cyberattack.

The savings banks continue: “In individual cases, your online banking access may have been blocked meanwhile due to several failed authorization attempts”. If access is still blocked, those affected should contact their savings bank so that it can reactivate access.

There are still a lot of comments on Facebook from users who are still experiencing problems with their online banking – but there are also many people saying that their online banking is working again. In the event of persistent disruptions, the only thing that seems to help is to wait and contact your local Sparkasse branch during opening hours.

The last time there were major issues with card payments at various banks and savings banks was at the beginning of April 2024.
