Ahead of the drama’s highly-anticipated premiere, the cast of “Curtain Call” dished about their characters!
KBS 2TV’s “Curtain Call” is an upcoming drama series that centers around the family of Ja Geum Soon (Go Doo Shim), an elderly woman from North Korea who owns the Paradise Hotel. She recruits a young theatre actor named Yoo Jae Heon (Kang Ha Neul) to fulfill her last wish with the limited time she has left.
Kang Ha Neul revealed that the drama beautifully depicts the process of growth. About his character Yoo Jae Heon, Kang Ha Neul added, “He thinks that Ja Geum Soon will be easy to deceive, but as he begins to see things from the other side, he begins to grow in a new way.”
Ha Ji Won plays Park Se Yeon, the general manager of the Paradise Hotel who is determined to see her grandmother’s legacy continued as she focuses in on the financial aspects of maintaining the hotel’s success. She teased that “Curtain Call” will give viewers the opportunity to really look into the value of the world. “The warm gaze through which Park Se Yeon views the world is in line with the message of ‘Curtain Call,’” Ha Ji Won revealed.
Go Doo Shim, who plays Ja Geum Soon, chose the word “family” to represent the drama. She explained, “The earnest heart of Ja Geum Soon, who always misses the family she left behind in North Korea, will be shown through how she values her family. Above everything, this will become a really warm drama that makes you feel a grandmother’s deep parental love.”
Ji Seung Hyun, who plays Park Se Yeon’s older brother Park Se Joon, described the drama as a “gift basket” of sorts. “There is extremely realistic acting, a family story that fits the times, a large scale production that is worthy of a blockbuster film and much more, creating a drama with everything from fun to heartwarming, tense, and thrilling scenes.”
Hwang Woo Seul Hye plays Park Se Joon’s wife Hyun Ji Won, a former news anchor. She chose the word “pine tree” as the drama’s keyword, sharing, “Just like how a pine tree is consistent and true, this project is deeply touching and will leave a lasting impression.”
Choi Dae Hoon, who plays the free-spirited Park Se Gyu, compared the drama to Russian tea dolls. He commented, “It will be a novel and fun project where a play exists within a play.”
Jung Ji So plays Seo Yoon Hee, a woman who is part of the same theatre troupe as Yoo Jae Heon. She described “Curtain Call” as the project that broke her out of the frame she was trapped in and compared the drama to digestive medicine. “Much like how one digests after eating, I hope this becomes a project that viewers can watch and feel refreshed afterwards.”
“Curtain Call” will premiere on October 31 at 9:50 p.m. KST!
