God of War Ragnarök team recommends muting these keywords to avoid spoilers

It’s happened again. There’s still a few weeks until the release of God of War Ragnarök, but stores have already sold some copies of the game, and spoilers have started to appear in social media and the rest of the Internet. Producer of God of War Ragnarök and director of God of War (2018), Cory Barlog, has shared his frustration about the situation, lamenting that fans who want a fresh experience will have to “dodge the spoilers” until they get their hands on the game.

“A retailer selling the game nearly TWO WEEKS before release,” said Barlog on his personal Twitter account. “Just so disappointing. Sorry to everyone that you have to dodge the spoilers if you want to play the game fresh. Completely f*cking stupid you have to do this. This is not at all how any of us at [Santa Monica Studios] wanted things to go.”

Before saying this, Cory Barlog commented about how he now understands why some developers have chosen to include only an installer file on their physical discs, although he admitted these words were only an expression of his anger and frustration. “Not advocating for that at all. Not the future I want as a gamer or dev,” he said.

Santa Monica recommends muting some keywords

The studio behind the title also had an official statement about the leaks on Twitter, recommending future players to mute certain keywords related to the coming title. “As we approach launch, it is important for our studio to preserve the experience of God of War Ragnarök for players who want to enjoy the game for the first time without spoilers,” says the Santa Monica Studios message. “We ask that you please be considerate of the many fans who do not want to accidentally see clips, gameplay, or narrative spoilers and avoid sharing them wider”.

The studio also revealed that they’re working on limiting the reach of these leaks online, but also understand that it’s nearly impossible to deal with all of them. “We strongly advise that you mute any keywords or hashtags associated with the game until release day.”

God of War Ragnarök will be available on November 9,2022, exclusively on PS4 and PS5. A Photo Mode will be implemented into the game after launch.
