Banking operations were hit across Krishnagiri district on Wednesday, as the bank employees union participated in the all India general strike called by the forum of Central Trade Unions and their associates.
The Bank Employees’ Federation of India (BEFI) led the protests by the employees in Krishnagiri against the four new labour codes diluting the labour rights and their rights to unionise; demanding strengthening of public sector banks and insurance companies, and a halt to privatisation and disinvestment in banks and LIC.
The strike witnessed the participation of banking unions that included All India Bank Employees’ Association, All India Insurance Employees’ Association, All India LIC Employees’ Federation, All India Bank Officers’ Association, and Indian National Labour and Employees’ Federation opposing the “anti-worker, anti-farmer and anti-national, pro-corporate policies of the government.”
The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations staged a protest demanding scrapping of the new pension scheme and reversal to the old pension scheme.
