Axos Bank Review 2025 – Forbes Advisor


Axos offers a wide range of banking products, including checking, savings, money market and CD accounts. Here’s a closer look at each.

Checking

Axos Bank offers six checking accounts for customers to choose from, none of which charge a monthly maintenance fee or require a minimum opening deposit.

  • Axos ONE Checking
  • Rewards Checking
  • Essential Checking
  • First Checking
  • CashBack Checking
  • Golden Checking

Axos ONE Checking

The Axos ONE account is a bundled checking and savings account that lets account holders earn up to 4.46% APY on savings balances and 0.51% APY on checking balances, as of August 1, 2025.

To qualify, one of the following options must be met in your Axos ONE checking account.

  • Receive at least $1,500 in total monthly qualifying direct deposits and maintain an average daily balance of more than $1,500.
  • Receive at least $5,000 in total monthly qualifying deposits (not direct deposits) and maintain an average daily balance of more than $5,000.

Direct deposits are defined as electronic deposits of your paycheck or government benefits. Other deposits or person-to-person payments are not considered direct deposits. If requirements are not met, the Axos ONE Checking account will earn a base rate of 0.00% APY, and the ONE Savings account will earn a base rate of 1.00% APY.

Axos Bank Rewards Checking

You could earn up to 3.30% APY APY with the Rewards Checking account from Axos if you meet specific requirements. Here’s how to earn APY with the account:

  • Receive monthly direct deposits totaling $1,500 or more (required to unlock other interest-earning options): 0.40% APY
  • Use your Axos debit card for a total of 10 transactions per month (min. $3 per transaction) or link an account to activate Personal Finance Manager (PFM): 0.30% APY
  • Maintain an average daily balance of $2,500 per month in an Axos Invest Managed Portfolios Account: 0.99% APY
  • Maintain an average daily balance of $2,500 per month in an Axos Invest Self-Directed Trading Account: 0.99% APY
  • Use your Rewards Checking account to make your full monthly Axos Bank consumer loan payment: 0.60% APY

The Rewards Checking account reimburses all domestic ATM fees.

Axos Bank Essential Checking

The Axos Essential Checking account is a basic checking option that does not earn interest. The account charges no overdraft, nonsufficient funds or monthly maintenance fees and is eligible for early direct deposit. It also offers unlimited ATM fee reimbursements.

Axos Bank First Checking

The Axos First Checking account is designed to introduce your teenager to personal finance and is available for teens ages 13 to 17 years old. The account earns interest, although at a low rate of 0.10% APY. Daily transaction limits are $100 cash and $500 in debit transactions. Up to $12 in domestic ATM fees are reimbursed per month. No overdraft or nonsufficient funds fees apply.

Axos Bank CashBack Checking

You could earn up to 1.00% cash back with the Axos CashBack Checking account. To qualify, you must maintain a $1,500 average daily balance in your account. If your account balance falls below $1,500, you’ll earn 0.50% instead of 1.00% cash back. You can earn a maximum of $2,000 per month in cash back.

The account also offers unlimited domestic ATM fee reimbursements.

Axos Bank Golden Checking

Customers ages 55 and over can apply for a Golden Checking account from Axos. The account earns 0.10% APY on all balances with no spending requirements and reimburses up to $8 in domestic ATM fees per month.

Savings

Three savings accounts are available from Axos:

  • Axos ONE Savings
  • Summit Savings
  • First Savings

Axos ONE savings account

As mentioned above, the Axos ONE account is a bundled checking and savings account. It requires account holders to meet specific requirements in their Axos ONE checking account to qualify for a rate of up to 4.46% APY on savings balances. If account owners fail to meet requirements, savings balances will earn a base rate of 1.00% APY.

Axos Bank Summit Savings

The Summit Savings account earns a competitive rate of 4.00% APY on all balances, a higher rate than what’s currently available from the best high-yield savings accounts. The account has no monthly fee or minimum deposit requirement. Incoming wires are free with the account, as are mobile check deposits. An ATM card is available on request.

Axos Bank First Savings

Similar to the First Checking account, the Axos First Savings account is available for teenagers ages 13 to 17. The account also earns 0.10% APY, a low rate for a savings account. For comparison, the national average savings rate is 0.38% as of July 21, 2025.

The plus side of the account is that teens won’t have to worry about monthly or overdraft fees, and they are reimbursed up to $12 per month in domestic ATM fees. The account has a daily cash transaction limit of $100.

Money Market

Axos Bank High Yield Money Market

Axos also offers a money market account with no monthly fees or minimum deposit requirements. The account, which comes with both a debit card and check-writing capabilities, earns 0.25% APY on all balances, a low rate compared to what is currently offered by the best money market accounts available.

Certificates Of Deposit

Axos CDs

Axos offers CDs with terms ranging from three to 60 months, each earning a low rate, as of 08/07/2025. Axos CDs require a minimum opening deposit of $1,000.

CDs automatically renew. Upon maturity, you will have a 10-day grace period to make changes to your CD without penalty. If you withdraw funds before your CD matures, you’ll owe an early withdrawal penalty, the amount of which depends on your CD term.

  • Terms three to five months: One and a half months’ interest
  • Terms six to 11 months: Three months’ interest
  • Terms 12 to 23 months: Six months’ interest
  • Terms 24 to 35 months: 12 months’ interest
  • Terms 36 to 47 months: 18 months’ interest
  • Terms 48 months or greater: 24 months’ interest

Axos also offers retirement CDs in 12-month, 18-month and 36-month terms.
