In a time where qualified professionals are forced to take up jobs like delivery agents, Bengaluru is no stranger to this phenomenon. Here’s a similar incident, where a Bengaluru-based netizen in finance took up the job of a delivery agent after he quit. Going from a seven-figure salary to waiting for a customer to order food on a rainy day, this delivery agent claimed that Zomato paid him more than Rs 1,500 a day. However, it was not met with complete compassion as other users questioned the extremity of joblessness even after his 6 years of work experience.
In his post titled, “Some experiences that made me realise how fortunate it is to have a 7-figure annual income with a weekend off and an AC cabin,” here’s what the finance-guy-turned-delivery-agent had to say. Recounting some harrowing experiences, he explained what happened after he left his finance career to end up working 15-hour days on the roads of Bengaluru.
‘Someone was trying to pull my gold chain’
Coming from a financially sound background of a career in finance, he wore a gold chain, as per his post.
“On my way to pick up an order, a cow jumped in front of me from my blind spot, and to avoid a collision, I tried evading and fell on the road,” he wrote. With knees and feet covered in bruises, a crowd quickly gathered around him. In a shocking turn of events, someone tried to “pull” his “gold chain”.
“Someone was trying to pull my gold chain. My chain was tangled with the waterproof mobile pouch, which I was wearing across my neck…I immediately held my chain and looked back, unable to figure out who it was,” he posted.
Verbal abuse for limping
Following this accident, his foot got stuck in his wheel alloy, which gave him a limp. Climbing the stairs to reach his order destination on the fifth floor, he could hear women cursing him in Malayalam, unaware that he could understand the language.
“In no way was I slow. I was walking at the same pace as any normal human do. I felt bad, but this is how it is. Everyone wants things so fast these days,” he remarked.
Internet in disbelief
Based on a LinkedIn profile, some users found the Redditor the name of “Anantharam Ashok,” based on his username. Dissecting it further, a user questioned his claims, saying, ” I don’t believe this. You are saying you were earning a 7-figure salary and now the ONLY option available to you is that of a delivery person?” They suggested using his network, referring to the experience on his alleged social media profile listing Morgan Stanley as one of his previous employers.
The internet sleuths, referring to his profile, questioned his MBA qualification and gawked at his inability to land a job at Morgan Stanley. Defending his position, a user claimed that the “Job market in India is bad. A Zomato job is better than BPO jobs…” Given his previous claim of going through a divorce, a netizen questioned the authenticity of the claim and asked whether he left the job to avoid alimony, leaving the comment section eager for a reply.
