CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVVA) – West Virginia State Treasurer Larry Pack announced today that his office has approved an online learning platform to receive Hope Scholarship Funds.
Outschool is a web-based education platform offering more than 140,000 classes to more than 1.5 million students nationwide. The company’s headquarters are in San Francisco, California.
Hope Scholarship funds can be used to pay tuition at private schools in states other than West Virginia if those private schools have signed up to participate in the Hope Scholarship Program.
Treasurer Pack says the acceptance of Outschool is a win for students who need tailored learning environments.
“This is a big deal for our Individualized Instructional Plan students, especially as we see a record number of students from the homeschool community coming into the program and we prepare to welcome thousands more once the program goes truly universal for the 2026-2027 school year.” Treasurer Pack said.
The State Treasurer’s Office announced in March that nearly $48.5 million in state funds have been administered through the Hope Scholarship for the 2024-2025 school year.
That more than doubles the 2023-2024 amount spent which was $22.3 million. That money was used on 5,443 students. The final numbers for the 2024-2025 school year have not yet been released.
The Hope Scholarship allows K-12 students to receive financial assistance that can be used for tuition, homeschool curriculum, and other qualifying expenses relating to schooling that is not public.
