‘Cruising for a Cause’ car show raises funds for children’s nonprofit

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Car enthusiasts were cruising for a cause at the Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Chicopee.

From Southampton to Chicopee, Dan Pellegrini is one of many drivers who like to show off their hot new wheels. For a car made in the 2000s with only 2,000 miles, he said he had to show out at the first ‘Cruising for a Cause’ car show on Saturday.

‘Kids on Track’ train rides promote STEM learning in western Mass.

“It’s a 2004 SRT 10 Ram,” Pellegrini said. “They’re very rare, they were only made for three years. There were only about 10,000 made, there was only 4,000 made that year.”

But it’s just an ordinary car show–it’s a charity fundraiser that took months to plan.

“Just getting other vendors to donate raffle prizes, getting the staff, like who’s going to be here the day of the setup, what food truck we’re going to have, spreading the word, attending other car shows, passing out flyers,” said Metro Jeep Service Director Felicia Barr.

This event was held to make children more comfortable while being treated at Baystate Children’s Hospital. From Jeeps to trucks, over 60 rides were on full display to raise money for a nonprofit called Unbroken Wings.

“We started off as a small little motorcycle run 11 years ago, and we’ve grown into a bigger foundation now,” said Eric Murray of Unbroken Wings. “I just hear feedback from the hospital that everything that we do there, they appreciate it. All the kids like it better, you know.”

While this isn’t the first time that the Chicopee dealership has partnered with Unbroken Wings, they are hoping that car enthusiasts in the community can continue to make a bigger impact.
