FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio — AARP Ohio recently announced nearly $93,000 in 2025 Community Challenge grants aimed at enhancing 11 Buckeye State communities.
Among the entities receiving funds is the Fairview Park Senior Center, which is planning to improve healthcare access for older adults.
“The AARP Challenge Grant will fund a private telemedicine station at the Fairview Park Senior Center providing seniors with a secure and convenient space for healthcare visits,” Fairview Park Senior Life Office Director Laura Brondos said.
“It’ll include a private screening area, computer and a desk ensuring a comfortable and confidential environment for medical consultations.”
The new space will feature high-speed internet, telehealth software and medical peripherals, allowing seniors to receive virtual medical care and support without the need for travel.
“The Fairview Park Senior Center is committed to enhancing healthcare access for our members by offering this telemedicine station,” said Brondos, who didn’t provide a timeline for implementation of the new amenity. “Our aim is to reduce hospital visits and improve chronic disease management without the challenges of transportation and long clinic wait times.
“By investing in this healthcare solution, we will further our mission to enhance the quality of life for older adults and hopefully bridge the gap between seniors and the modern technology.”
The Community Challenge grants are part of AARP’s $4.2 million commitment to fund 383 quick-action projects aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, with a focus on the needs of older adults.
The funds support efforts to improve public places, transportation, housing and digital connections.
“AARP Ohio is proud to work with communities across the state to help make them more livable for people of all ages,” said AARP Ohio State Director Jenny Carlson in a press release.
“These projects are about turning great local ideas into real improvements that make everyday life better, especially for older Ohioans.”
