James Dykes will join Fisher Funds as director – private equity.

The move comes a month after Fisher Funds shared its strategy to invest more than $1 billion in private equity, with $300 million earmarked for New Zealand businesses.

“This is an important senior role, and it is fantastic to announce that someone of James’s calibre is joining the team. James will be working alongside me to source and execute new investment opportunities, oversee investment management, and identify opportunities for value creation across the portfolio in the New Zealand market,” said Michael Walmsley at Fisher Funds.

With nearly 20 years of corporate finance and investment banking experience in New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Dykes has expertise across M&A advisory, private equity transactions, valuations, and strategic investment decision making. He also brings strong relationships with New Zealand private and public markets businesses.

“James’s expertise and experience will be invaluable as we source and execute on new investment opportunities and I look forward to working with him to build the Fisher Funds’ private equity portfolio and ultimately deliver strong returns for clients,” said Walmsley.

Based in the Auckland office, Walmsley will join Fisher Funds in October 2025.
