Avondale Proposes 2% Property Tax Increase, Public Hearing Set for

The City of Avondale is on the cusp of boosting its primary property taxes, as revealed by a recent notification to taxpayers. At the heart of this hike is a proposed 2.00 percent increase which, in stark figures, translates to an additional $84,665 in levies. A home valued at $100,000 would bear the brunt of this increment, with the proposed tax pushing the total to $60.95. It stands against the previous rate amounting to $59.76, without the proposed uptick, as detailed in the city’s announcement.

City officials have detailed that this intended rise in tax is not considering the augmented primary property taxes from new construction. Also unaccounted for within this increase, any fluctuations due to levies stemming from voter-approved bonded debt or budget and tax overrides.

The response of Avondale’s residents to the tax increase will begin to crystallize in public discourse, as a hearing is slated for June 2, 2025. Interested parties are called to convene at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, located at 11465 W. Civic Center Drive, to voice their perspectives on the matter.

A legally required announcement will soon be published, paving the way for this public forum. A Truth in Taxation notice is scheduled for publication in the Southwest Valley Arizona Republic newspaper on May 16 and May 23, according to the City of Avondale.
