SUNBURY — Eight city-owned properties will be auctioned off to the public Oct. 28 prior to a Sunbury council meeting.
Sunbury Councilman Jim Eister said 503-505 N. Center Ave., 201-203 Spruce St., 1027 Keller St., 242 Church St., 158 Linden St., and a piece of land off of Walnut Street Extension, between Lenker and Walnut streets, will be available.
The city will place signs on the property so people interested can drive by and look at what they may be purchasing, Eister said. He said the properties were city-owed properties that have sat vacant for many years.
“This is some housekeeping on some of the parcels,” he said.
Eister said the city will keep the former police department building on Market Street and the city warehouse on Chestnut Street.
The warehouse was given to Sunbury Revitalization Inc. a few years ago with the plans of making a parking lot for the Albright Center on Chestnut Street. Those plans fell through and the city took the property back.
City Administrator Derrick Backer said the city will sell the city-owned properties prior to the council meeting at City Hall. The time will be announced in the next week.
“With the city having no plans specific to these properties, council wanted to get these back into private hands,” he said.
Eister said Solicitor Joel Wiest will be present for the auction.
Eister urged interested parties to visit the properties prior to making bids.
Backer said anyone with questions should contact him at City Hall at 570-286-7820.
